Destille: Waterford
\n<\/strong>Die Waterford Brennerei entstand 2015, in einer umgebauten, ehemaligen Guinness Brauerei in Waterford, ganz im S\u00fcden Irlands. Der Gr\u00fcnder Mark Reynier war ehemals der Kopf hinter dem Wiederaufbau der Islay-Brennerei Bruichladdich und zuvor auch Weinh\u00e4ndler. Reynier m\u00f6chte mit seinen Whiskys das Terroir, also den herkunftsspezifischen Charakter des Getreides einfangen.
\nDas ultimative Ziel der Brennerei: einen weltweit einzigartigen, tiefgr\u00fcndigen Whisky entstehen zu lassen. Dieser entsteht in der Komposition der einzelnen \u201eSingle Origin\u201c Malts, von denen Waterford nun die ersten beiden Abf\u00fcllungen in einer limitierten Auflage auf den Markt gebracht hat. J\u00e4hrliches Produktionsvolumen: ca. 1 Mio. Liter.<\/p>\n

Fun Fakt: <\/strong>In Waterford laufen die Dinge, im Vergleich zu anderen irischen Brennereien, etwas anders… Es wird beispielsweise zweifach- statt dreifach destilliert und auch die typisch irische Schreibweise des Whiskys mit e wird hier nicht angewandt. Man greift hier auf die alte Schreibweise ohne \u2019e\u2018 zur\u00fcck. Ein Grund hierf\u00fcr k\u00f6nnte auch sein, dass man auf die Zugabe von Zuckerkul\u00f6r (E150a) verzichtet und daher als Anspielung auch das ‘e’ in der Schreibweise der Spirituosen wegl\u00e4sst.<\/p>\n

Whisky\/Whiskey: Ballyroe Edition 1.1
\n<\/strong>Jede Abf\u00fcllung von Waterford erkundet einen Ort der irischen Schwerpunktregion f\u00fcr den Anbau von Gerste, in der die Brennerei liegt. Terroir f\u00fcr Terroir bilden die exklusiven \u201eSingle Farm Origins\u201c ihren Herkunftsort geschmacklich ab. Diese einzigartige Farm ist im Besitz von Phillip O’Brien. Generell sollen die Whiskeys aus der Waterford Serie \u00ab\u00a0Single Farm Origin\u00a0\u00bb die Auswirkungen untersuchen, die das Terroir auf einen Whiskey haben kann, indem Gerste verwendet wird, die auf einzelnen Farmen in ganz Irland angebaut werden. \u00c4u\u00dferst spannend. So wurde f\u00fcr den Ballyroe Gerste von der gleichnamigen Farm verwendet. Das Land ist hier sandig und schlammig, was der dort wachsenden Gerste einen besonders blumigen Geist verschafft. Das wirkt sich auch auf den Whisky aus, der an einen bl\u00fchenden Sommergarten erinnert: trockenes Heu, Heidekraut und warmer Honig steigen in der Nase auf. Der Single Malt reifte 4 Jahre lang in Ex-Bourbon-, First Fill Bourbon-, Sherry und Virgin Oak-F\u00e4ssern. 2021 wurde er mit 50,0 % auf 9384 Flaschen abgef\u00fcllt.<\/p>\n
