Dort erwarb er einige Jahre sp\u00e4ter Weinberge, um sich als Winzer niederzulassen. Da die erworbenen Weinberge mit unterschiedlichen Rebsorten bepflanzt waren, entschied er sich, den Wein zu destillieren und mit Kr\u00e4utern zu kombinieren, statt ihn als solchen zu vermarkten. Nach mehrj\u00e4hrigen Experimenten brachte er im Jahr 1888 den Metaxa-Weinbrand auf den Markt. 1968 zog Metaxa von Pir\u00e4us nach Kifissia in die heutige Fabrik um. 1989 verkaufte die Familie das Unternehmen an IDV, im Jahr 2000 erwarb Remy Cointreau die Mehrheit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun Fakt: <\/strong>Als Logo wurde eine antike M\u00fcnze mit einem Krieger gew\u00e4hlt, die beim Aushub des Fabrikgeb\u00e4udes gefunden worden war. Stilisiert findet sich diese nach wie vor auf den Etiketten.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Destillat: Metaxa 7yo (1970\/1980iger Jahre)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Obwohl in der Herstellung gro\u00dfteils ein klassischer Weinbrand, unterscheidet sich die Rezeptur des Metaxa von diesem durch die Zutat einer geheimgehaltenen Mischung von Kr\u00e4utern. Er wird daher als <i>Griechische Spirituosenspezialit\u00e4t<\/i> und nicht als Weinbrand verkauft. Alle Metaxa-Arten werden in Eichenf\u00e4ssern gelagert. Diese Behandlung \u2013 sowie die Zugabe von Zuckerkul\u00f6r\u2013 f\u00e4rbt den Metaxa goldgelb. Des Weiteren wird dieser verschiedenen Veredelungsprozessen ausgesetzt, darunter einer 48-st\u00fcndigen Lagerung bei \u22126 \u00b0C mit anschlie\u00dfender Tiefenfiltration. Die verschiedenen Versionen unterscheiden sich vornehmlich in der Dauer der Lagerhaltung. Die einfachste ist der Drei-Sterne-Metaxa, der jedoch nur auf wenigen M\u00e4rkten angeboten wird.
