Sie liegt in einem offenen Moorgebiet s\u00fcdlich der Stadt, in den Ausl\u00e4ufern der Grampian-Berge. Die uralte Wasserquelle von Blair Athol \u2013 der Allt Dour \u2013 flie\u00dft von den H\u00e4ngen des Ben Vrackie durch das Gel\u00e4nde und tr\u00e4gt zu der weichen Qualit\u00e4t und dem sanften Abgang des Whiskys bei. Gegr\u00fcndet wurde die Destille bereits 1798 von John Stewart und Robert Robertson unter dem Namen \u201eAldour\u201c. Heute geh\u00f6rt die Brennerei zum gro\u00dfen Whisky-Konzern Diageo. Blair Athol wird oft als das \u201eTor zu den Highlands\u201c bezeichnet und geh\u00f6rt zu den \u00e4ltesten Destillerien Schottlands, die noch in Betrieb sind. J\u00e4hrliches Produktionsvolumen: ca. 2,5 Mio. Litern pro Jahr.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun Fact: <\/strong>Pitlochry ist ein bekannter Kurort. Blair Athol ist deshalb schon lange Besucher und den Tourismus gewohnt und hat sich mit einem interessanten Besucherzentrum und Destillerie-F\u00fchrungen ganz darauf eingestellt. Die Landschaft rund um die Destillerie ist sehr sehenswert und es werden einige interessante F\u00fchrungen angeboten die auch reichlich frequentiert werden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whisky\/Whiskey: Blair Athol 12yo \/ Benchmark Serie (Murray McDavid)<\/strong><br \/>\nDer vorliegende Single Malt Whisky kommt von Blair Athol aus Schottland. F\u00fcr insgesamt 12 Jahre durfte der Single Malt reifen. Den l\u00e4ngsten Teil davon verbrachte der Whisky in Bourbon Barrels. Zum Abschluss erhielt er ein 20-monatiges Finish in 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry F\u00e4ssern. Man darf sich somit auf intensive Sherryaromen freuen! Es handelt sich nicht um eine Einzelfassabf\u00fcllung, sondern eine Verm\u00e4hlung aus vier F\u00e4ssern. Insgesamt konnten so 1506 Flaschen des kostbaren Whiskys gewonnen werden. Dieser Whisky wurde nicht von Blair Athol selbst abgef\u00fcllt, sondern von dem unabh\u00e4ngigen Abf\u00fcller Murray McDavid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sidenote zum Abf\u00fcller:<\/strong> Murray McDavid wurde von den Londoner Weinh\u00e4ndlern Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin und Gordon Wright (von der Springbank Distillery) gegr\u00fcndet. Sie erlangten schnell den Ruf, Whisky in interessanten F\u00e4ssern (wie Weinf\u00e4sser) zu reifen. Im Jahr 2000 machte sich das Murray McDavid-Team daran, die geschlossene Bruichladdich Distillery auf Islay wiederzuer\u00f6ffnen, die im Jahr 2012 an den Spirituosenriesen Remy Cointreau verkauft wurde.
