Whisky\/Whiskey: Usquaebach – old & rare \/ The Grand Whisky of the Highlands (Douglas Laing)<\/strong>
\nUsquaebach (Oos: Ke: Bah) wurde von der alten g\u00e4lischen Phrase \u00ab\u00a0uisge beatha\u00a0\u00bb abgeleitet, was soviel wie \u00ab\u00a0Wasser des Lebens\u00a0\u00bb bedeutet. Usquaebach, einst nur dem K\u00f6nigshaus, Aristokraten und Honoratioren vorbehalten, wurde in den Vereinigten Staaten erstmals 1969 bei der Amtseinf\u00fchrung des Pr\u00e4sidenten vorgestellt. Der Ursprung von Usquaebach geht auf das fr\u00fche 16. Jahrhundert zur\u00fcck, w\u00e4hrend der Herrschaft von Maria K\u00f6nigin von Schottland.
\nUsquaebachs schriftliche \u00dcberlieferung ist jedoch bis zum 28. M\u00e4rz 1768 zur\u00fcckverfolgt worden und hat seit seiner Entstehung mehrere Inkarnationen durchlaufen. Von 1768 bis 1842 war es Single Malt. Zwischen 1842 und 1904 wurde er zu einem Vatted Scotch Whisky (ein Blend aus Single Malts, oft aus verschiedenen Jahren von derselben Brennerei, aber nie irgendein Grain Whisky). Dann, im Jahr 1904, wurde es zu einem \u00ab\u00a0malzreichen\u00a0\u00bb Blend, bei dem 85 % des Blends Malt Whisky und 15 % Grain Whisky waren. Ein amerikanisches Unternehmen, 12 Stone Flagons, kaufte die Brennerei im Jahr 1973. Ab den 1980er Jahren begannen sie, eine Reihe von gereiften Highland Single Malt Whiskys auf den Markt zu bringen, um ihre Produktbasis zu erweitern. Auch wenn es sich um einen \u00ab\u00a0Wechselbalg\u00a0\u00bb handelt, ist und war das Original immer noch das Flaggschiff des Unternehmens.<\/p>\n

Sidenote zum Abf\u00fcller:<\/strong> Bis 2013 arbeiteten die Br\u00fcder Fred-Douglas und Stewart Laing zusammen und leiteten das familieneigene Abf\u00fcllunternehmen bevor sie beschlossen, das Verm\u00f6gen des Unternehmens aufzuteilen und getrennte Wege zu gehen. Douglas Laings Tochter Cara schloss sich ihrem Vater an und brachte ihre umfangreiche Erfahrung mit schottischem Whisky mit, nachdem sie als Global Brand Manager f\u00fcr Jura Single Malt t\u00e4tig war (mit einem kurzem Intermezzo als Marketingmanagerin f\u00fcr Bowmore und Glen Garioch).
\nCara ist in der dritten Generation der Familie Laing t\u00e4tig, welches 1948 von ihrem Gro\u00dfvater Fred Douglas Laing gegr\u00fcndet wurde. Er mischte seinen eigenen Whisky etablierte ein Abf\u00fcllprogramm mit vielen schottischen Destillerien. Douglas Laing besitzt bereits eine Destillerie \u2013 Strathearn in Perthshire, die 2019 erworben wurde und bald durch eine weitere Destillerie (eine neue Anlage im Wert von 10,7 Millionen Pfund in Glasgow) erg\u00e4nzt wird.<\/p>\n
