Jahrhundert beginnt in Oberegg die Geschichte der Familie \u00adLocher und ihrer Braukunst. 1886 \u00fcbernimmt die Familie die Brauerei in Appenzell, die noch heute Brauerei und Destillerie ist. Im Jahre 1999, nach Aufhebung des Verbots der Herstellung von Spirituosen aus \u00adGetreide, beginnt Braumeister Karl Locher, bekannt f\u00fcr seine kreativen Biersorten, mit der Herstellung des S\u00e4ntis Malt in geschichtstr\u00e4chtigen Bierf\u00e4ssern und Verwendung von Quellwasser aus dem Alpstein. Die ersten Whiskys kommen im Jahre 2002 auf den Markt, sodass S\u00e4ntis Malt als Vorreiter der Schweizer Whisky-Produktion in die Geschichtsb\u00fccher eingeht. Das dies auch \u00fcber die Grenzen der Schweiz hinweg wertgesch\u00e4tzt wurde, konnte man an der Auszeichnung vom Whisky-Experten Jim Murray im Jahre 2010 erkennen. Er k\u00fcrte den Appenzeller S\u00e4ntis Malt \u00abDreifaltigkeit\u00bb zum \u00ad\u00abEuropean Whisky of the Year 2010\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun fact: <\/strong>Clevere Marketingidee&#8230; \u00a0Sepp Manser, der Wirt des Berggasthauses Meglisalp, hatte sich informiert und erfahren, dass es immer mal wieder Sonder-Editionen mit S\u00e4ntis Malt Whisky aus speziellen F\u00e4ssern gab. Darum fragte er an, ob er nicht so einen einmalig gelagerten Whisky f\u00fcr sein Berggasthaus haben k\u00f6nnte. Bei der Brauerei Locher AG war man schon immer offen f\u00fcr neue Ideen und so kam es, dass das Berggasthaus Meglisalp im Sommer 2012 seinen eigenen und einzigartigen Whisky ausschenken konnte.<br \/>\nBefl\u00fcgelt von der gro\u00dfen Nachfrage in der Meglisalp, kam man ins Nachdenken \u2013 sowohl seitens der Brauerei Locher AG als auch bei Bergwirt Sepp Manser. Darum setzte man sich zusammen und \u00fcberlegte, wie man die Erfolgsgeschichte im Berggasthaus Meglisalp zu einer Erfolgsgeschichte des ganzen Alpsteins und somit des Appenzeller Bergwirtevereins machen k\u00f6nnte&#8230; 26 Berggasth\u00f6fe \u2013 26 S\u00e4ntis Malt Whiskys und somit war die Idee zum Whiskytrek geboren. Zum Zuge kommt das Malz, getrocknet \u00fcber einem Feuer aus Appenzeller Hochmoortorf; zudem ausgekohlte Bierf\u00e4sser. Das schmeckt eindringlich nach Ger\u00e4uchertem und glimmendem Lagerfeuer, umgarnt von einem delikaten Karamellton, angefeuert von 52%. Jim Murray k\u00fcrte diese Urgewalt in seiner \u201eWhisky Bible\u201c zum \u201eEuropean Whisky of the Year 2010\u201c.
