Im Jahr 2001 erschien der erste zehn Jahre alte Whisky, welcher sich in Europa aber eher schlecht verkaufte. 2012 wurde die Brennerei von Harvey\u2019s of Edinburgh gekauft. Diese Blendingfirma hat sehr gute Beziehungen nach Taiwan. 70 Prozent des neu aufgelegten Spey Whisky verkauft sich daher aktuell in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>Die Brennerei geh\u00f6rt zu den kleineren Brennereien in Schottland. Nur vier Angestellte arbeiten hier mit zwei Brennblasen. Das Wasser stammt aus einem umgeleiteten Bachlauf aus dem Fluss Tromie. Es handelt sich damit um die gleiche Wasserquelle, die schon vor hunderten Jahren ein Wasserrad einer M\u00fchle angetrieben hat. Das Besondere an der Herstellung ist eine lange Fermentationszeit von 120 Stunden, wodurch gerade nussige Aromen in das Destillat gelangen sollen.<\/p>\n<p>In der Speyside Distillery werden drei Standardwhiskys produziert. Anfangs erschienen die Whiskys unter dem Brennereinamen und sp\u00e4ter nur noch unter dem Namen <em>Spey<\/em>. Teil davon sind der Tenn\u00e9 mit einem sechsmonatigen Portwein Finish, der Trutina aus Bourbonf\u00e4ssern und der getorfte Fumare aus Bourbonf\u00e4ssern.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun Fakt:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Der Bau der Brennerei begann 1962 und wurde von einer einzigen Person \u2013 Alex Fairlie \u2013 in Handarbeit erst 1987 fertiggestellt. Dabei musste Fairlie das Geb\u00e4ude noch w\u00e4hrend des Baus erweitern, da sonst die ganze Ausstattung nicht hineingepasst h\u00e4tte. Das fertige Brennereigeb\u00e4ude hat daher einen leichten Knick in der Mitte. Das Brennereigel\u00e4nde ist so klein, dass kein Lagerhaus vor Ort gebaut werden konnte.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whisky\/Whiskey: Spey Fumare<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Der Spey Fumare der Speyside Distillery ist ein Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Wer einen typischen Speyside Whisky erwartet, wird hier \u00fcberrascht. W\u00e4hrend besonders die Speyside Distillery f\u00fcr ihre, wie der Name schon sagt, typischen Aromen der Speyside bekannt ist, lagerte die letzten Jahre etwas Au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliches in manchen F\u00e4ssern. Es ist die erste Abf\u00fcllung eines getorften Whiskeys der Marke Spey. F\u00fcr diesen wurde \u00fcber Torffeuer gedarrte, gem\u00e4lzte Gerste genutzt, was ihm rauchige und torfige Aromen verleiht. \u201eFumare\u201c bedeutet \u00fcbersetzt \u201erauchen\u201c. Somit ist in limitierter St\u00fcckzahl von 18.000 Flasche der erste Rauchige der Speyside Distillery auf den Markt gekommen. Jede Flasche ist entsprechend nummeriert und ohne Altersangabe abgef\u00fcllt. Er wird au\u00dferdem nicht k\u00fchlgefiltert oder nachkoloriert.<br \/>\nBereits in der Flasche schimmert der Spey Fumare in einem satten Goldton. Schon das Bouquet \u00fcberrascht: maritim, salzig, eine leicht medizinische Note und viel K\u00fcstenduft. Auf der Zunge kommt die getorfte Gerste deutlich durch. Das rauchige Aroma erinnert an Lagerfeuerrauch. Dabei ist der Whisky s\u00fc\u00df und salzig zugleich. Im Finish wird deutlich, dass die Lagerung in stark getoasteten F\u00e4ssern stattfand.
