Die Deanston Distillery ist eine Single Malt Scotch Whiskybrennerei am Ufer des Flusses Teith, acht Meilen von der historischen Stadt Stirling entfernt und am Tor zum Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. Es ist die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Destillerie im Besitz des schottischen Whiskyherstellers Distell Group Limited, der auch die Bunnahabhain Distillery auf der Islay und die Tobermory Distillery auf der Isle of Mull besitzt.
\nDie Deanston Distillery wurde 1785 als Baumwollspinnerei von Sir Richard Arkwright gegr\u00fcndet und blieb 180 Jahre lang als solche bestehen, ehe sie 1964 in eine Destillerie umgewandelt wurde. Die Produktion begann allerdings erst 1969 und dauerte nur 3 Jahre bevor das Unternehmen vom Private-Label-Spezialisten Invergordon gekauft wurde. Nach der Schlie\u00dfung von 1982 kaufte es schlie\u00dflich Burn Stewart 1990 f\u00fcr 2,1 Millionen Pfund. J\u00e4hrliches Produktionsvolumen: ca. 3 Mio. Liter.<\/p>\n

Fun Fakt:\u00a0 <\/strong>Es gibt viele Destillerien in Schottland, die als M\u00fchlen begannen… so auch Deanston. Das Besondere daran war aber die riesige Gr\u00f6\u00dfe der Spinnerei. Die Anlage wurde 1785 am Ufer des schnell flie\u00dfenden Flusses Teith von Richard Arkwright erbaut und hatte wohl das gr\u00f6\u00dfte Wasserrad Europas. Heutzutage kann Deanston f\u00fcr sich in Anspruch nehmen, eine der gr\u00fcnsten Destillerien Schottlands zu sein. Der gesamte Strom wird von einem Turbinenhaus erzeugt, das 20 Millionen Liter Wasser pro Stunde verarbeitet. Der \u00fcbersch\u00fcssige Strom wird dann an das nationale Stromnetz verkauft.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dieser DEANSTON 2000 18 Jahre \u00ab\u00a0Red Wine Finish Chieftain\u2019s\u00a0\u00bb wurde im Juni 2000 destilliert und reifte im Einzelfass #92701, bevor er f\u00fcr kurze Zeit in einem Rotweinfass ausgebaut wurde. Er wurde 18 Jahre sp\u00e4ter im Mai 2019 mit einem Ertrag von nur 208 Flaschen abgef\u00fcllt.
\nSidenote zum Abf\u00fcller: Ian Macleod? Bitte wer? M\u00f6gen viele denken… Dabei ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit hoch, schon einmal einen Whisky aus diesem Hause getrunken zu haben. 1933 von dem Whiskyh\u00e4ndler Leonard J. Russell gegr\u00fcndet und auch heute noch im Besitz der Familie, geh\u00f6rt Ian Macleod Distillers zu den wichtigsten und vielseitigsten Unternehmen der Whiskybranche.
