Gegr\u00fcndet wurde die Brennerei 1823 durch James Findlater, Donald Mackintosh und Alexander Gordon. Urspr\u00fcnglich firmierte die Brennerei unter dem Namen Dufftown Distillery und geh\u00f6rte eine Zeit lang John und James Grant von Glen Grant, sp\u00e4ter dann George Cowie, bevor sie \u00fcber die Distillers Company Ltd. (DCL) und die United Distillers (UD) schlie\u00dflich zu Diageo kam, in deren Besitz sie heute noch ist. Bei Mortlach wird der Whisky als 2,81-fach destilliert bezeichnet, weil er anf\u00e4nglich 3-fach destilliert wird um dann in einem anschlie\u00dfenden, individuellen Verfahren zu einem Single Malt heranzureifen. J\u00e4hrliche Produktionskapazit\u00e4t: ca. 3,7 Mio. Liter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun fact 1: <\/strong>Kriegerischer Whisky&#8230; Der Name Mortlach wird unterschiedlich gedeutet, neben den \u00dcbersetzungen \u201egro\u00dfer gr\u00fcner H\u00fcgel\u201c oder \u201esch\u00fcsself\u00f6rmiges Tal\u201c wird er manchmal als \u201eMassaker an den Wildg\u00e4nsen\u201c \u00fcbersetzt, wobei mit \u201eWildg\u00e4nsen\u201c das d\u00e4nische Heer gemeint ist, welches vom schottischen K\u00f6nig Malcolm II. im Jahr 1010 in der Gegend um Dufftown geschlagen wurde.<br \/>\n<strong>Fun fact 2:<\/strong> Ber\u00fchmtheiten ausgebildet&#8230; Der ber\u00fchmteste Lehrling der Destille war William Grant, der sp\u00e4tere Gr\u00fcnder von Glenfiddich.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whisky\/Whiskey: 12yo (The Wee Wichtie)<\/strong><br \/>\nEs handelt sich hier um einen 12 Jahre alten Single Malt, der in der Destillerie Mortlach in Speyside hergestellt wird und 2018 als Teil eines Trios (darunter ein 16-J\u00e4hriger und ein 20-J\u00e4hriger) vorgestellt wurde. Dieser besondere Ausdruck tr\u00e4gt den Untertitel &#8220;The Wee Witchie&#8221;, der sich vom Namen der winzigen Destille ableitet, die einen Teil des Whiskys destilliert.
