Lagavulin, ausgesprochen Lagga-voulin, kommt aus dem G\u00e4lischen und bedeutet in etwa: &#8216;Senke, in der die M\u00fchle steht&#8217;. Lagavulin kann von sich behaupten, eine der \u00e4ltesten Brennereien Schottlands zu sein. Aufzeichnungen zeigen, dass bereits 1742 illegal destilliert wurde. Als offizielles Gr\u00fcndungsjahr gilt 1816, als John Jonston und Archibald Campbell die Destillerie gr\u00fcndeten. Heute ist sie im Besitz des weltgr\u00f6\u00dften Spirituosen- und Whiskykonzerns Diageo und hat eine j\u00e4hrliche Produktionsmenge von ca. 1,5 Mio. Litern. Die Wasserquelle der Brennerei ist der Lochan Sholum, der 200m \u00fcber dem Meeresspiegel liegt. Dessen Wasser flie\u00dft den Hang hinunter und verhilft dem Whisky zu seinem unverwechselbaren (torfigen) Geschmack.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun fact:<\/strong> Lagavulin und Laphroaig sind keine Freunde&#8230; Im 19. Jahrhunderts kam es, durch Sir Peter Mackie (dem Stillman von Lagavulin), mit der benachbarten Laphroaig Destillerie zu zahlreichen Rechtsstreitigkeiten. Durch die wachsende Beliebtheit von Laphroaig wollte Peter Mackie den Whisky &#8220;kopieren&#8221; und Laphroaig aus dem Markt dr\u00e4ngen. Die Versuche schlugen allerdings fehl, da die Wasser- und Torfunterschiede der beiden Brennereien, den entstandenen Whisky stark voneinander unterschieden. Netter Versuch Peter&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whisky\/Whiskey: Offerman Edition 11yo Guiness Cask (Second Edition)<\/strong><br \/>\nDie Lagavulin Offerman Editions umfassen derzeit 3 Editionen. Sie entstanden in Zusammenarbeit mit dem bekannten US-Amerikanischen Schauspieler Nick Offerman (bekannt aus der Serie &#8220;Parks and Recreation&#8221;) und der Islay Brennerei. Der zweite Whisky in der Offerman Edition-Serie, Guinness Cask, wurde zu Ehren von Nick Offermans Vater Ric kreiert. Dieser limitierte 11 Jahre alte Lagavulin reifte vier Monate lang in ehemaligen Guinness-Bierf\u00e4ssern der Open Gate Brewery in Maryland.
